Wild Futures are a finalist in the Environmental & Wildlife Attraction category at the Cornwall Tourism Awards
With 17 award categoriesat the Cornwall tourism awards covering everything from hotels and restaurants to activities and tourist information, as well as four new thematic attraction categories. The Monkey Sanctuary, flagship project of the Looe based charity Wild Futures, is a finalist in the Environmental and Wildlife category for its outstanding work for local wildlife.
The Awards have a double purpose as Malcolm Bell, Head of Visit Cornwall, explains: “Cornwall is full of some amazing businesses who are continually developing and improving their offering. By recognising and rewarding this, the Awards celebrate and showcase excellence which in turn inspires quality across the industry.
As well as learning about the rescued monkeys at The Monkey Sanctuary, visitors can get involved in wildlife activities such as bug box making, get interactive in the ‘Wildlife Room’, watch bats via a live link to a roost in the cellar of the old house and explore the extensive wildlife gardens, home to more than 385 different wildlife species including, badgers, lizards, foxes, deer, the lesser horseshoe bat and the rare Pearl bordered fritillary butterfly.
Primate Keeper and Education Officer for Wild Futures, Claire Turnbull stated: “As a local charity which cares for wildlife and works to protect local habitats, we are extremely proud to be a finalist for this award. Not only is it recognition for what we can offer for the valued tourists who visit us each year, but it also shows that we are fulfilling our goals as a charity”.
The businesses have won a place in the coveted winners roll from a record number of entries following a rigorous judging process and debated by a panel of industry professionals. Now one step closer to claiming Gold, Silver, Bronze or Commended the businesses are quietly celebrating as they await the Grand Award Ceremony which will take place at The Headland Hotel in Newquay on 7th November.
