Sykes Cottages Adopt Sheila the Capuchin Monkey at The Monkey Sanctuary

Sykes Cottages, a holiday cottage company with cottages throughout the UK, has become a corporate adopter of Sheila the capuchin at the Wild Futures Monkey Sanctuary near Looe.

Wild Futures is a UK registered charity founded upon almost five decades of experience as a leader in the field of primate welfare and conservation, environmental education, and sustainable practice. Wild Futures is committed to protecting primates and habitats worldwide. The Monkey Sanctuary in Cornwall is their flagship project which has an international reputation for the quality of care, enclosure design and innovative management techniques afforded the monkeys there.

Sheila is said to be the oldest monkey at the Sanctuary, however her precise age is not clear due to her being a rescued monkey. Sheila came to the Sanctuary in March 2012 with her extended family consisting of Elvis, two other adult females Betty and Sue, along with their offspring. They were rescued from an animal care college where it had become apparent the group were unsuitable for students to practice hands on animal care, therefore Wild Futures were asked to rehome the group. Sheila’s origins are unknown but it is clear she is a dominant female within the group because even the big male Elvis looks to her for support.

With more than 4500 cottages throughout the UK and Ireland and 25 years’ experience, Sykes Cottages is the UK’s leading holiday cottage agency.  In addition to providing excellent self-catering holidays.  Katie from Sykes Cottages stated: “We are keen to support The Monkey Sanctuary, which is not only a wonderful cause but also a great day out for our customers on holiday in Cornwall.”
