Bieber’s Baby Needs a Home

It appears that the Munich based shelter which has been caring for Justin Bieber’s confiscated pet monkey, Mally, has requested that it be re-homed as soon as possible.  According to various sources, Justin’s management has contacted the shelter and asked for the baby white faced capuchin to be re-homed with a sanctuary or zoo.

A few weeks ago, leading primate welfare charity Wild Futures, wrote to Justin’s management asking them to do the right thing by Mally and for the monkey to be re-homed with a reputable sanctuary.

Rachel Hevesi, Director of Wild Futures states:  “We are pleased that Justin has decided to do the right thing by Mally.  We hope that this sends out the right message to his young fans that having a monkey as a pet is a huge mistake.  There is a significant problem with thousands of monkeys being taken from their mums both in the wild and captivity and sold into the pet trade every year.  We see the damage this causes every day at our Sanctuary.  Many of our monkeys suffer with disabilities, diabetes and abnormal behaviour such as rocking and self harming, following their time kept as pets.  The suffering must end.”

It is not known what will happen to the monkey now and how long it will take to re-home.  There is a possibility that it will stay in Germany or be moved to a central rescue centre in Europe where it will undergo quarantine before being transferred to a sanctuary.

Wild Futures is calling for Mally to be re-homed at a reputable sanctuary where the monkey can live a fulfilled life with others of his own kind, be given the freedom to express natural behaviours and receive specialist care.  Wild Futures feels strongly that the welfare of the monkey is put first and if deemed appropriate and possible, Wild Futures would be delighted to offer Mally a home at its Monkey Sanctuary in Cornwall, UK.
