Local artists go wild for the monkeys
Local artists are coming together for a Wild Art Auction to raise much needed funds for leading primate charity Wild Futures.
A mix of artists and photographers will be submitting their wild themed work for a silent auction at Plymouth restaurant Bistro One.
The auction will commence at a launch event on the evening of 26th April 2013, when diners will be welcomed to an exciting night of delicious food and entertainment from Exeter based acoustic singer Ellie Williams.
The auction will then continue for the month of May in Bistro One and anyone is welcome to book for breakfast, lunch or dinner to view and bid.
Among the artists are Plymouth based Paul Acraman and photographer Sue Earnshaw. Paul Acraman states: “Observing nature, seeing it through an artist’s eyes, fills me with awe but also makes me incredibly aware of how delicate the whole planet is and how much we have messed it up so I’m pleased to be helping Wild Futures in their fight to protect primates and our natural habitats.”
Wild Futures’ biggest project in the UK is The Monkey Sanctuary. The charity hit the national news during Easter after it voiced concerns over popstar Justin Bieber’s pet monkey. The popularity of monkeys as pets is driving up demand for the charity’s rescue and rehabilitation work and it fears that fans may want emulate their heartthrob by getting a monkey as a pet.
Hayley Dann of Wild Futures states: “The demand for our work is on the rise. We know that the primate pet trade is escalating from the requests we receive monthly and so fundraising events like this are essential. The mix and quality of the work submitted for the Wild Art Auction is fantastic; we are very excited to be working with such a group of highly talented artists. Our launch event is set to be a great night thanks to Stephen Barrett of Bistro One and special guest Ellie Williams. I am personally a big fan of Ellie and can’t wait to hear songs from her new album performed live for this event!”
Anyone wishing to book for a meal on the launch night on 26th April or throughout the auction during the month of May in Bistro One in Plymouth’s Ebrington Street, can find more information on www.bistro-one.co.uk or by calling 01752 313315.
