Wild Futures celebrated 50 years in style at the Jungle Ball

Leading primate welfare charity, Wild Futures, celebrated the start of their Sanctuary’s 50th year in style at the Jungle Ball at St Mellion International Resort on Saturday 15th March 2014.

The prestigious event was organised by Plymouth University’s Eve Events and raised a fantastic £2279 for the charity which will go a long way towards supporting its work protecting primates in the UK and abroad.

Guests came from far and wide, including guests from the Body Shop Foundation who are supporting Wild Futures this year in donating proceeds from a Dragon Fruit Lip Butter product.

South East Cornwall MP, Sheryll Murray also attended the event, having supported Wild Futures since 2011 when she adopted the Barbary macaque, Donkey, who Wild Futures rescued from the circus and pet trade.

More than £800 was raised via a silent auction, with prizes consisting of a 1966 world cup shirt signed by Geoff Hirst, a tandem sky dive, Body Shop hamper and jewellery.  Guests enjoyed a game of heads and tails, plus a raffle and exceptional entertainment from singer Matt Baker.

Wild Futures’ Monkey Sanctuary, a rescue and rehabilitation centre for ex-pet monkeys, currently cares for 37 monkeys and has cared for more than 160 over the past 50 years. Many of the monkeys that have been rescued by the charity suffer from severe physical and abnormal behavioural issues such as diabetes and self-harming, following their time kept as pets.

Hayley Dann from Wild Futures stated: “The Jungle Ball was a fantastic way to start our 50th anniversary celebrations.  It was an evening of great food, great entertainment and great company. We want to say a big thank you to Eve Events for organising the Jungle Ball in aid of our charity – they were a very professional team to deal with and considering they are still studying at Plymouth University, I am sure they will all go far.  The money raised from the Jungle Ball will go a long way to supporting the work we do in protecting primates and habitats worldwide”.

Wild Futures has a number of different events to celebrate its 50th this year including a Wild Cycle on the 6th April.  To find out more, please visit www.wildfutures.org/events or  contact the Wild Futures fundraising team on [email protected] or 0844 272 1271.
