Take to the streets for Wild Futures

Join Wild Futures on Sunday 27th April and run for the monkeys. Leading primate welfare charity based in the South West, Wild Futures, is looking for runners of all ages and abilities to run for them in this year’s iconic Plymouth half marathon.

Wild Futures is the leading primate welfare charity in the UK, which is this year celebrating 50 years of its Sanctuary based near Looe, Cornwall.  .  The Monkey Sanctuary is the charity’s current largest project  and is a rescue and rehabilitation centre for ex-pet monkeys.  Many of the monkeys that have been rescued by Wild Futures suffer from severe physical and abnormal behavioural issues such as diabetes and self-harming, following their time kept as pets.

Plymouth’s half marathon is a traffic-free road race set in the heart of the city. Runners will gather on the Hoe, before starting their 13.1 mile journey by running along the seafront to the Barbican. The run follows a great course, and is renowned for its fantastic atmosphere, as hundreds of supporters line the streets to cheer on runners as they pass by.

Wild Futures would like to see lots of monkeys running the streets this year – and have plenty of monkey suits for any runners passionate about running for primates.  The charity is  urging anybody interested to get in touch as soon as possible if they have signed up and are looking for a new, worthy and green charity.  All runners that join the Wild Futures troop will be invited to visit The Monkey Sanctuary for a behind the scenes tour, sent a full fundraising pack and monkey or banana suit to run in if they wish.  For more information contact the fundraising team on 01503 262532 or email [email protected].
