Wild Futures’ Monkey Sanctuary Highly Commended by the South West Tourism Excellence Awards
The South West Tourism Excellence Awards are the ‘official’ tourism awards for the region, with nearly 350 entries considered for the awards over 16 categories. All entrants undergo a rigorous short-listing process with 213 visits by a team of 35 judges and mystery shoppers.
Alongside numerous first-time entrants, this year’s list of winners includes many former entrants whose past feedback has helped them develop and enhance their business.
Wild Futures’ Monkey Sanctuary, a rescue centre for ex-pet monkeys, in Looe Cornwall, has been awarded with highly commended in the small visitor attraction of the year category.
Wild Futures’ Monkey Sanctuary currently cares for 37 monkeys and has cared for more than 160 over the past 49 years. All of the rescued monkeys suffer with physical or abnormal behavioural problems following their time kept as pets and require continuous specialist care. A visit to the Wild Futures Monkey Sanctuary offers a real insight into the daily workings of a rescue and rehabilitation centre.
Chair of the South West Awards Panel, Alistair Handyside, said: “This year sees a truly excellent collection of winners across the South West, with many new entrants as well as well known established beacon businesses.”
Monica Read, Director of headline sponsor Source for Business, said: “The South West tourism industry should be rightly proud of the high standards in customer service, quality standards and overall visitor experience as exhibited by all the nominated businesses. Let’s hope the sun continues to shine in 2014 for our wonderful region.”
Wild Futures’ Monkey Sanctuary is currently closed for the winter season but reopens for a special Christmas Open Day on Sunday 15th December 2013 with a special entrance fee of just £1.
