Plymouth University to bring together fifty flying monkeys for charity Wild Futures

Plymouth University is working hard to bring together fifty flying monkeys to take part in a sky dive next year for primate charity, Wild Futures, and last Thursday brought together lots of students dressed as monkeys for a photo to promote the record breaking fundraiser.

Wild Futures is the leading primate welfare charity in the UK, which will be celebrating its 50 years’ anniversary in 2014.  The charity’s current largest project is The Monkey Sanctuary in Cornwall; a rescue and rehabilitation centre for ex-pet monkeys. Wild Futures is working hard towards the day when all monkeys are free from the threat of the pet trade, free from malnutrition, mental, physical and emotional suffering.  Many of the monkeys that have been rescued suffer from severe physical and abnormal behavioural issues such as diabetes and self-harming, following their time kept as pets.

Alex Bordoli, Student Fundraising Coordinator at Plymouth University states: “We have worked with Wild Futures for a number of years, providing volunteers for their Sanctuary but this year we really stepped up our support and now have many students fundraising on their behalf.  The Flying Monkey Sky Dive is a great fundraising event that is proving quite attractive to our students.  Not only is it a way for our students to take part in a fantastic lifetime achievement, but it is also a brilliant way to channel their efforts into raising funds for a worthy cause.  We are 50% of the way there to achieving our 50 flying monkeys and I am sure we will crack it!”

Hayley Dann, Head of Income Generation and PR at Wild Futures states: “The support we receive from Plymouth University is just wonderful and we are really excited to be working with them on this fundraising event.  Our Flying Monkey Sky Dive initiative, which we launched last year, is proving to be very popular and we can’t wait to be there on the day to watch the 50 monkeys drop out of the sky!  What a great way to celebrate our charity’s special golden milestone!”
