Wild Futures Announces a New Date for The Big Monkey Mile
Leading primate welfare charity, Wild Futures, has today announced a new date for its exciting event, The Big Monkey Mile: Sunday 1st September 2013. The new date is announced after the event was called off last weekend due to adverse weather conditions, including 20 plus mile hour winds and pouring rain.
Wild Futures’ fundraising team and volunteers worked hard to organise their first Big Monkey Mile as a way to raise funds to rescue and care for more monkeys. The charity has experienced a demand over recent months for its rescue and rehabilitation work.
Many children and families had signed up to the run, but for health and safety purposes, at 10am on Sunday 4th August, the team made the decision to call off the event, contacting and informing all participants immediately. Since then, event organisers have worked with Plymouth City Council and today they announced a new date: Sunday 1st September 2013.
The Big Monkey Mile will take place at Plymouth’s Central Park and will be started by Radio Plymouth at midday. The one mile route takes fun runners around the park, starting and finishing at the clock tower. All participants are encouraged to dress as monkeys and there will be a prize for the best fancy dress and most funds raised. After taking part in the race, runners will receive a medal for finishing and be able to relax with a picnic and family entertainment including a bouncy castle, arts and crafts and face painting.
Hayley Dann, Wild Futures, stated: “It was extremely disheartening to have to call off our new and exciting event, The Big Monkey mile, at such short notice, but as with all our events, health and safety comes first. We hope that as many supporters as possible will still be able to join us on our new date; it also gives others the chance to get involved too. The Big Monkey Mile on the 1st September will be a great way for children and families to have fun before school starts again.”
Registrations are still open for this event and will continue to be so up until the day. Participants can register online at www.wildfutures.org/big-monkey-mile or by contacting the fundraising team on 0844 272 1271.
