Spiderman and the spider monkey race to promote new climbing event
This week Spiderman took to the climbing wall at Plymouth’s Life Centre to race a monkey and promote Climbathon – a new fundraising event to raise vital funds for leading primate charity, Wild Futures.
The charity is looking for climbers to take to the High Sport’s climbing wall at Plymouth Life Centre on Sunday February 3rd. For just £10 to register, participants get the chance to climb the equivalent height of 3 iconic UK buildings: Big Ben, The Shard or The Gherkin! All participating climbers will receive a certificate for their challenge and a free pass to The Monkey Sanctuary which opens in March this year.
Wild Futures’ main UK project is The Monkey Sanctuary in Looe, Cornwall – a primate rescue and rehabilitation centre. Currently, The Monkey Sanctuary is recovering from flooding as well as the tragic loss of Pepper, a baby capuchin who arrived at the Sanctuary in March 2012.
Katie Brydges, Events and Community Fundraiser at Wild Futures states: “We have had a difficult couple of months at The Monkey Sanctuary and are now trying to pick ourselves back up after the damaging effects of November’s storm. The money raised from the Climbathon event will help us to fill the resultant financial gap and enable us to continue with the vital work of rescuing and re-homing more monkeys. The Climbathon is a very important fundraiser for us.”
The Climbathon event is open to everyone, new or experienced. Please visit www.wildfutures.org/events to download a registration form or call the fundraising office on 0844 272 1271.
