Spooky Day at The Wild Futures Monkey Sanctuary
Come and join Wild Futures’ staff on 31st October 2012 for a range of spooky festivities at the Wild Futures primate rescue and rehabilitation centre – The Monkey Sanctuary near Looe. Open all through the half term holiday from 11am – 4.30pm, on the 31st there will be ghost stories, pre-trick or treat face painting, a spooky treasure hunt and Halloween workshops, in addition to regular activities and of course seeing and learning about the resident monkeys.
The Monkey Sanctuary this year has rescued 10 monkeys – all capuchins. Capuchins are the biggest group that the Sanctuary has now and this is because they are popular as pets. Nearly all the capuchins at the Sanctuary are ex-pets and suffer from a range of problems, physiological and psychological following their time kept as pets. It costs nearly £6,000 a year to care for a monkey at the Sanctuary and so the charity Wild Futures very much values the donations generated from visitors throughout the year.
Visitors are promised an exciting day on 31st October with the spooky activities. Even the onsite Treetop café is getting on board, proposing pumpkin specials in addition to the regular menu! Normal entrance fee applies, but all visitors will be given a free pass for 12 months so they can come back as many times as they like! All visitor income will go right back into the charity Wild Futures to ensure that more monkeys can be rescued.
